Detect Breast Cancer as Early as Possible

While mammograms are the primary cancer screening test, breast ultrasounds and breast MRIs are important tools that are used to help detect breast cancer as early as possible. Breast MRIs can be performed on an outpatient basis and the procedure may vary based on your condition and your doctor’s practices. ZP Rads uses state-of-the-art technology and the latest methods to perform the right screening for your unique situation. Contact us today to learn more.

Find Early Breast Cancers Not Detected by Other Tests

Mammograms use x-ray technology to assess the structure of breast tissue for calcifications, masses, abnormal tissue patterns, and other abnormalities related to cancer. While mammograms are considered the best method for overall testing, breast MRIs and breast ultrasounds may be used in conjunction with mammograms to offer a more comprehensive assessment. According to the latest guidelines from the American Cancer Society, breast MRI and mammography screening should be considered for women with high-risk factors like BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations, certain genetic disorders, and a greater lifetime risk of breast cancer based on family history.

Provide More Information After a Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Breast MRI scans are often used to provide treatment teams with important information regarding a patient’s breast cancer diagnosis. MRI scans can help determine the stage of breast cancer — how big the cancer is and whether it has spread — and help doctors decide on the proper course of treatment. Breast MRIs are standard procedures following the detection of cancer cells in the lymph nodes under arms, or in the case that the detected breast cancer is larger than five centimeters.

Provide Targeted Assessments of Lumps or Breast Pain

Breast ultrasounds are effective, complementary imaging tests that are used to target specific areas within the breast. If a patient detects a lump or is experiencing pain in a particular part of the breast, an ultrasound can be used alongside a mammogram to take a closer look at the area of concern. Breast ultrasounds can help doctors determine if a mass detected during your initial cancer screening is a fluid-filled cyst or solid mass, and they are also used to help guide biopsies.

Breast MRIs and breast ultrasounds are invaluable cancer screening methods that — when used correctly — provide information that is critical to the assessment and treatment of breast cancer. Do you need breast cancer screening in New York? Contact ZP Rad to schedule an appointment.
