Coronary Plaque Analysis
Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology is now offering brand new, AI-based software designed to characterize and quantify plaque and stenosis in coronary arteries. CT Plaque Analysis is completely noninvasive and is performed at the same time as a Coronary CT Angiogram, requiring no additional procedures.
ZP is one of the first radiological practices in the area to offer CT Plaque Analysis with CCTA exams. Contact our Cardiovascular Imaging team if you have any questions about the procedure.
What is CT Plaque Analysis?
CT Plaque Analysis is specialized software designed to characterize and quantify plaque and stenosis in coronary arteries using information acquired during a CCTA exam. ZP has advanced their approach to coronary artery disease diagnosis, treatment and management by implementing this technology throughout Long Island.
CT Plaque Analysis uses deep learning neural networks to:
- Identify and segment coronary arteries, lumen, and vessel wall from CCTA images.
- Support quality control, allowing trained and qualified analysts to review and edit the automated segmentation where needed.
- Compute measurements of plaque, stenosis, and vessel geometry using simple rule-based mathematical calculations derived from the final segmentation.
What are the benefits of CT Plaque Analysis?
CT Plaque Analysis adds another layer of intelligence to your Coronary CT Angiography, helping detect coronary artery disease earlier, stratify cardiovascular risk more accurately, and guide more personalized care.
- Provides a more complete picture of heart health by analyzing both the degree of artery narrowing (stenosis) and the composition of coronary plaque.
- Uses advanced AI technology to identify and quantify plaque that may not be apparent through traditional assessment alone.
- Detects both calcified and non-calcified plaque, helping uncover early signs of coronary artery disease.
- Helps identify potentially high-risk plaque features that may be associated with an increased risk of future cardiac events.
- Offers personalized risk assessment by providing detailed information about the amount, location, and characteristics of plaque within the coronary arteries.
- Supports earlier intervention and prevention strategies, allowing patients and physicians to make more informed decisions about lifestyle changes and treatment options.
- Improves diagnostic confidence by combining advanced AI analysis with expert interpretation from cardiovascular imaging specialists.
- Provides objective, reproducible measurements that can be tracked over time to monitor disease progression or response to treatment.
- May help reduce the need for additional testing by delivering a comprehensive analysis from a single Coronary CT Angiography (CTA) examination.
- Enhances physician decision-making with detailed, data-driven insights that support individualized patient care.
- Non-invasive and convenient, requiring no additional scanning time beyond the Coronary CTA exam in most cases.
- Offers greater peace of mind by providing a deeper understanding of coronary artery health and overall cardiovascular risk.
